Keth Memorial Golf Course, University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, Missouri: FGS is recently completed the design a new golf training center at the existing golf course to facilitate a new golf management program of study at the University. The original clubhouse has been demolished and replaced with temporary buildings to accommodate the practice facility and a future new clubhouse and teaching center. The practice facility features a 20 station, 6,000 square foot all weather tee; a 30 station, 38,000 square foot natural turf tee, four heated tee stations, target greens, a 5,000 square foot putting green, and a 5,000 square foot short game practice green with sand and grass bunkers. Construction was completed in the spring of 2008 by Snyder Brothers Golf Construction Company of Pleasant Hill, MO.

Pomme Creek Golf Course, Arnold, Missouri: FGS recently completed an independent analysis of the feasibility and long term viability of acquiring and operating an existing privately owned, public golf course located within the corporate limits of the City of Arnold, MO. The report analyzed the golf course quality and condition, the public golf course market in the area, and made recommendations regarding the opportunity for success. The report suggested improvements that would be necessary for the golf course to achieve the performance desired. A proforma was prepared by FGS to predict the financial performance of the golf course over the period of 2007 through 2016. The City acquired the golf course in the spring of 2007 and FGS assisted in hiring management personnel and setting up operating procedures. This fall, FGS developed plans for remodeling several holes to convert the par 68 course to a par 70 course and the work was accomplished in the fall of 2008 by Houska, Inc. of Foristell, MO.

Mill Creek Area Golf Course Projects, Shawnee, Kansas: FGS, on behalf of the City of Shawnee, Kansas has reviewed two proposals from developers to develop an upscale (approximately $11,000,000 estimated cost) public golf course as a part of an upscale residential development in the Mill Creek area of Shawnee, Kansas. In each case, the developer was proposing to donate land for the golf course and manage construction of a course financed by the City of Shawnee. FGS determined that neither proposal would cash flow for the foreseeable future and the project would require significant subsidies to be self sustaining. The work done by FGS included a detailed analysis of the existing market and competition in the Johnson County, Kansas area where a significant number of new high quality golf courses have been built in the last five to ten years.

Argentine Golf Academy Complex, Kansas City, Kansas: FGS completed a conceptual plan and financial feasibility study for development of a state of the art golf recreation complex on a brownfield site located in the Argentine area of Kansas City, Kansas. The plan includes a 60 tee driving range with target greens, a short game practice area, covered teeing areas, a 36 hole miniature golf course, batting cages, parking for 160 cars and a 6,000 square foot clubhouse with golf shop, restaurant, offices and meeting rooms. The project is owned by El Centro, Inc., a not for profit community organization that has achieved significant success managing and developing or improving challenged properties. Total cost of the project is estimated at $3.0 million.

US Navy & BWR Corporation Consulting: FGS has performed golf course design and consulting services for BWR Corporation at NPS Monterey CA and NAB Little Creek, VA. FGS provided design consulting and construction observation services for the remodeling of the 18 hole Monterey Pines Golf Course at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey CA. Tommy Abbott and Associates and Kevin Tucker Design Group, Inc. is the design/build golf course contractor. At the Eagle Haven Golf Course on the Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek in Norfolk, VA, FGS performed assessments and suggested opportunities regarding: (1.) drainage issues on the 11th hole, (2.) the existing irrigation system and pump station, and (3.) the quantity and quality of the irrigation water supply.

Schifferdecker Golf Course, Joplin, Missouri: FGS completed a strategic master plan for the 84 year old municipal golf course in Joplin, MO. The master plan and recommendations identified the most needed improvements, essential restoration of the existing infrastructure, and required  playing condition improvements. The report recommended that annual subsidies of $150,000 to 300,000 would be necessary for several years to move the golf course towards a break-even opportunity in a reasonable number of years. The report also recommended operational changes, management changes, and new marketing strategies. The City of Joplin has recently authorized $400,000 toward some initial actions to restore the prosperity and viability of Schifferdecker GC.

Emporia Municipal Golf Course & Runway Extension, Emporia, Kansas: FGS prepared a comprehensive master plan for the existing 18-hole Emporia Municipal Golf Course. An essential part of the plan was relocation of several holes required as a result of a proposed runway extension on the adjacent municipal airport. BWR Corporation is the airport project engineer and FGS has worked closely with them and FAA officials to free the space needed for the runway extension and improve the golf course at the same time. The City has received preliminary approval of funding for the runway extension and is now studying ways to finance the golf course improvements so construction can begin in the near future.

Shiloh Springs Golf Club, Platte County Parks & Recreation, Missouri: FGS developed a strategic plan update for the Shiloh Springs Golf Club in Platte City, MO. The report addressed the local golf market, local and national trends and projections for public golf and the ability of the existing golf course to effectively compete in the local golf market now and in the future. Input was sought from local focus groups, community leaders, a community-wide leisure services survey and a golfer satisfaction survey. The plan recommended short term goals, mid-term goals and a long term goal with respective action plans that would result in a superbly managed and maintained, reasonably priced and an attractive community public golf asset for Platte County citizens and golfers. The plan reflected a process that would be responsive to fiscal opportunities over the next 15 to 20 years.
